Walkarounds for the Soul

Search me, God, and know my heart;
    test me and know my anxious thoughts.
 See if there is any offensive way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24

We stopped for lunch on our way to see our daughter in Indiana. After driving for over 5 hours, we needed to stretch our legs. Seeing a sign for Willow Beach Recreation Area and Campground, we decided to stop, found a day picnic spot, backed in our camper and enjoyed our lunch.

After packing up our picnic supplies, I went in to use our bathroom. Meanwhile, Mike conducted his routine walkaround to check everything, and decided to check the internet hook-up on the roof. He noticed something on the roof and thought it was a piece of trash. As he went over to investigate, he saw it was a piece of our roof flapping in the wind. OH NO! Mike figured out that when he was backing into the spot, a branch scraped the top of the RV.

The tree didn’t look problematic. Apparently, it was out of my range of sight as he was backing into the place. Thankfully, we had some roof patching material with us. So, Mike began patching the hole.

As I watched him from down below, I began thinking about how we often need to take care of spiritual holes in our lives as well. Did we speak sharply to our spouse and need to apologize? Have we neglected reading the Bible? Have we hoarded our resources and forgotten to give generously from the blessings our Father has given us?

So over the next few days, I will be doing a walkaround of my soul, asking God to help me see places he needs to patch. What about you? Is it time to do a walkaround of your soul?
