Lost Pond Loop

We enjoyed our hike on the Lost Pond Loop, which is a 2.9 mile trail, marked moderate. I would say, though, that this trail was harder than some of the others we took that were called moderate.

Important Map Details

The Lost Pond Trailhead is the beginning of several different trails. If you look at your park map, Lost Pond says .49, but that is only if you are going to go to the pond and back. If you want to take the 2.9 loop, take a picture of the individual map at the big sign. It will tell you which numbers to follow. You will NOT find signs that say Lost Pond Loop on them, just numbers. So you need to know what numbers you need to follow.

Down we go!

The first part of the trail you descend, which is true of most of the trails at Mueller State Park. Also, remember that pets are not allowed on the trail. Some of the trail was in the forest.

Ponds

You pass two ponds on this trail, Lost Pond and Greer Pond.

Flowers

The last time we visited this state park, the aspens were turning in late September. This year we visited in August, and many wildflowers still marked the trails and hillsides.

What goes down, must go up!

The hard part about the trails in this park is that most of them go back up to get back to the trailhead. Depth is hard to portray in pictures, but some of the places were fairly steep. We made our own switchbacks and took several breaks on the way up.

A nice hike, though there are others I would recommend you take before this one. Next week, I will share with you the Cahill hike.
