Willow Beach Recreation Area and Campground Review

Do you struggle to find a spot to stop your RV for a picnic lunch? A great place to stop is Willow Beach Recreation Area outside of Little Rock, Arkansas. If you need a place to camp for a night or longer, they have spots for that as well.

Day Use

This park has at least 17 day use picnic spots. What makes this park so unique is that every spot has room to back in your trailer! Do be careful around picnic site 4 in the second day use area. There is a tree there that damaged our roof. I wrote about it here.

Group Areas

There were three different group picnic areas, but they were all roped off. I am not sure if that was because of Covid or another issue.

Boat Ramp

There is a double boat ramp with 6 or so spots in the parking lot for boat trailers.

Campground

Willow Beach Park has 21 reservable sites with water and electric. Sites 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21 face the river with gorgeous sunset views.

Sites 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 face the marshy section of the park.

If you have elementary age children, I would recommend site number 1 that overlooks the playground. I always looked for these type of sites where my husband and I could cook, sit outside and read and still keep an eye on our children.

Make sure you bring a long water hose as a regular length won’t work.

Bathroom

There are several bathrooms in the day use area. The bathroom in the camping area consists of a fairly new building. It has 4 individual bathrooms, two on each side. Each bathroom has a toilet, changing station, hooks, shower, and a bench. It felt warm in there when I used it, and it was only April. I read some reviews and apparently the heat is stifling in these bathrooms in the summer.

Wildlife

You can choose from many benches sprinkled around the park to enjoy watching the local wildlife.

If you are in the Little Rock area, you should at least check out this park as a place to stretch your legs or take a picnic lunch. Admission is free for day use! Next week, I will be reviewing a campground I definitely do not recommend in the Land Between the Lakes area. See you next week.
