What can you do at Land Between the Lakes?

On the way back from seeing a production at my daughter’s college, we spent a little time in an area called Land Between the Lakes. This area is comprised of 300 acres between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Previously, I reviewed both the Kenlake State Resort Park Campground and the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Campground in this blog. We planned to stay here a little longer, but weather caused us to cut our visit short. Today, I will go over just a couple of the sites we enjoyed in our short visit to this area.

Elk & Bison Prairie

Want a chance to see elk, bison and turkeys roaming in the prairie? We thoroughly enjoyed our drive through this preserve. We felt it was well worth the five bucks we paid. You can circle around as many times as you wish once you enter, and we chose to take the drive twice. The signs along the way have QR codes you can use to hear audio tracks. Golden Pond Visitor Center

This visitor center has a planetarium with showings all day 7 days a week. There is a nice picnic area, playground, small interpretive center and bookstore. We did not have time to see one of the planetarium shows, but hope to see one when we come back.

Scenic Drives

The area has a variety of scenic drives you can take. Here is a good page with a list of all of them. I believe the one we took was the Kentucky Lake Drive – Woodlands Trace. It was misting/raining, so we didn’t get out of the car much, but it was a nice drive to look at scenery including views of the lake.

Since we have another two years before our daughter graduates, I am sure we will take several more trips to this area to explore all that it has to offer. I will update this page whenever we get a chance to do that.
