Avoid this dam campground!

No, I didn’t misspell a word in the title. Today I am going to share why you should not camp at the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Campground.

Land Between the Lakes

We love this area, and next week I will share some of the fun activities we enjoyed while we were there. Previously, we stayed at Kenlake campground, which had some issues, but which I would still recommend. The campground at the dam you just need to avoid!

Abandoned?

No one greeted us or ever visited us when we drove in. We visited in mid-April, which is early in the season, but certainly not in the dead of winter! Many of the spots are short and had picnic tables in the middle of them. All but one of the bathrooms were locked.

Trees!

This state officials need to trim the trees in the campground, especially to make it more accessible to fifth wheels!

Campsites

Most of the campsites looked to be too short for our 32 foot fifth wheel, and as I mentioned, the trees are a hazard at many of the spots. Also, look carefully at the pictures and you will notice just how far away some of the electric and water hookups were to the campsites. For example, look at site 43 and they are way to the left of the driveway.

Dump Stations

There are 2 dump stations, though we didn’t realize it when we were camping here. We could not use the one on our end of the campground because it had completely filled up with water! So we had to pay ten dollars to use the Love’s a few miles down the road.

Other Options

The Kentucky Dam Village State Resort offers other types of lodging: 72 lodge rooms and 61 cottages. We did not have time to visit them, but you can find out more here. If you want to visit the area around the dam, I would stay in those, not in the campground.

You might try Kenlake State Resort Park Campground; however, it has some of the same issues as this one: small spots and connections far from the campsites. Check out my review here.

Since we pass through here on the way to see our daughter in Indiana, we will definitely continue to explore camping options in the area and will pass on what we discover. Next Wednesday, I will review the attractions at Land Between the Lakes.
