Nature’s Canvas: Remarkable Views on the Escarpment Trail

In the fall, the Lord creates beautiful canvases in nature. The Escarpment Trail is one of the best hikes to explore some of nature’s remarkable views in the Porcupine Wilderness. However, the sixteen-mile hike can be intimidating for many hikers. Yet, you do not have to hike the entire trail. The four-mile section we hiked provided several hours of enjoyable hiking and pretty views.

We started at the Lake of the Clouds parking area toward the Overlook Trail and followed the signs to the Escarpment Trail.

The hike began in the forest, where we enjoyed the hints of colors in the trees. In a few weeks, the canvas of colors would be spectacular.

We weaved in between sections along the bluff and back into the forest, taking in the various perspectives of Lake of the Clouds as we emerged at each of the viewpoints.

We traveled about 2 miles to Cloud Peak, a perfect spot to enjoy a snack and remarkable views. Again, taking this hike toward the end of September or early October would enable you to see the trees in their full glory of fall color.

This four-mile section of the Escarpment Trail took us 2 hours and 16 minutes with an altitude gain of 666. So if you are not ready to hike sixteen miles, you might consider taking this shorter section, which will still give you some remarkable views of nature’s canvas, especially in the fall.

This website concentrates on where we go and what we do. If you are a Christian and are interested in travel-inspired spiritual themes, check out my Substack newsletter and The Rest Stop Podcast.
