Driving Wagon Tongue Gulch Road

I talked about this 4 wheel drive road last summer in my post about Eleven Mile Canyon. The road is also called 393. We drove this beautiful road again, and I thought it would be helpful to do an in-depth post about it since I was not able to find much about the drive when I did a search.

We drove road 98 from our Witcher Cove campsite.. It took us about 45 minutes to drive to the entrance from the campsite. Road 98 has lots of washboarding on it. When you turn off onto Wagon Tongue Gulch, you will notice some campsites. You will see several spots for boondocking along the road.

The road was rougher than I remembered it, but Mike said it was about the same. He had so much fun driving as you can see in the video.

The first section of the road, winds among aspen and pines. Many roads branch off for more exploring or camping if you desire.

We also found some spots where we pull off to view the scenery and even catch a few glimpses of Pike’s Peak.

After awhile, you pull into the canyon section (not the official Eleven Mile Canyon Park section). The road here is only marginally better.

Then you arrive at the pay station for the park. Notice, this is not a state park, so your Colorado State Park Pass isn’t valid. This park is well worth the 7 dollar admission fee. Notice that if you want, you could start the road from the park. I will show both views in the pictures.

This is a four wheel drive road, so regular cars would not do well. But if you have a high clearance vehicle with four wheel drive, then this is a beautiful choice.
