Raven Ridge Overlook

My favorite hike at Mueller State Park is probably the Raven Ridge Overlook hike. You start this 1.5 mile round-trip hike at the Overlook Ridge Trailhead, where there are several trails you can take, including one that includes part of the Lost Pond hike.

At the trailhead, you will see a picnic area. If you go just a little bit down the trail, you will find a couple that are spaced out and have some nice views.

I strongly suggest taking this hike around sunset. We saw some deer while we were hiking.

Part of the time you can see Pikes Peak and other mountains as you hike along the ridge.

The end of the hike has some big boulders you can climb up on to get a beautiful view of several mountain chains and valleys.

We sat on the rocks and enjoyed the views for over an hour and enjoying a devotion together. Afterwards, we held hands and watched the sun go down. Don’t worry about hiking back in the dark, you have plenty of time to hike the short way back in the twilight.

We actually did this hike twice on our trip. The first day, some storms were rolling in, so did not stay to see the sunset. I am so glad we came back. The second time we saw no one at all on our hike and it was Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. If you want a little longer hike, you can take the Red Tail Overlook that would give you similar views and add approximately 3/4 of a mile each way.

Next Wednesday, I will take a break from sharing hikes around Mueller to share a gem in our small town: The Broadcast Museum.
