Lake Bob Sandlin Review

Last weekend, we enjoyed catching up with friends at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. This East Texas park offers camping, fishing, boating, hiking, geocaching and more. Click here for a map of the park.

Campsites

They have 75 campsites with water and electricity, and 16 primitive hike-in sites. Very few of these are right on the lake. Most sites are in the woods. If you want to have a campsite where you can keep your boat in the water, or at least tie it up during the day in between fishing trips, I would recommend nearby Walleye Park.

There is one large bathroom in the main camping area. This clean facility has several stalls and showers in it. Another nice feature of this campground is the portable tote dump station. If you have an extra gray water container, you can bring it down here to dump it rather than having to go to the regular dump station.

Other Lodging

They have 12 screened shelters that have a 20 amp outlets and a water spigot. They also have 8 cabins that have electricity, a bathroom, and bunk beds. You must bring your own linens.

Hiking

The park has several nice trails. Click here for a map. When we were camping at Walleye Park, we drove over and hiked part of the Dogwood Trail. The trout pond is just a short hike in and a great place for a picnic, fishing or for sitting and enjoying the quiet.

Some of the primitive camping areas with primitive bathrooms were also on this trail.

Water Sports

In addition to using your motorized fishing boat, this lake also has a nice cove for kayaking. You can rent a few kayaks if you do not have some of your own.

Swimming and Picnic Area

A picnic area overlooks the nice swimming beach.

Cemetery

The signage is correct; there is a cemetery near the swimming area.

Fort Sherman Cemetery has a few gravestone and small displays about early settlers.

Overall, I would recommend Lake Bob Sandlin State Park for day or overnight trips. It was a great place to catch up with old friends.
