Journey Through Keweenaw: Scenic Views on Brockway Mountain Drive

One day we took the short drive from Fort Wilkins Historic State Park Campground to the beginning of Brockway Mountain Drive. This highest above-sea-level drive between the Rockies and the Alleghenies is 9.5 miles and provides several scenic pullouts for stunning views of Lake Superior.

The summit has beautiful views of the Keweenaw Peninsula. We visited in September, just as the trees started changing colors. I imagine this drive would be breathtaking at the height of fall colors. You can also find bathrooms at the summit.

We saw quite a few signs and trails for mountain biking if you enjoy that. The looked rather steep and challenging from the road.

Silver Falls

Also, the drive ends a very short way from Silver River Falls. We just took a small hike from the parking area to see these small falls.

You could easily combine driving this road with taking a sunrise hike or exploring the towns of Copper Harbor or Eagle Harbor. I would strongly suggest adding this drive to your itinerary, especially in the fall.

This website concentrates on where we go and what we do. If you are a Christian and are interested in travel-inspired spiritual themes, check out my Substack newsletter and The Rest Stop Podcast.
