Do You Pray Expectantly?

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait expectantly.
Psalm 5:3

We stood and waited. We didn’t know the exact time, but we knew we would see it—the eruption of “Old Faithful.” The geyser erupts every 60 to 110 minutes. Park rangers can predict when it will erupt within a 10-minute range about 90 percent of the time. That’s pretty accurate.

In this particular psalm, the writer explains that he lays his requests before the Father and expects him to answer. The psalmist has confidence that God hears him and will respond. If you read the entire Psalm, you will see he wants God to protect the righteous and punish the wicked. We may be worried about a loved one, a job situation, or a diagnosis. Regardless of the circumstances, we need to lay our requests at the feet of our Father. How God responds to our requests is entirely up to him. We cannot see the big picture. We cannot predict precisely when or how he will respond, but we should still wait with confident expectation that he will.

Dear God,
Thank you that you are a good and faithful God. You hear me. I wait expectantly to see how you will answer.
Amen
