Waterfall Wonders: Fun Day Trip on Keewenah Peninsula

Are you looking for a fun day trip from Fort Wilkins State Park? Consider taking a trip to see the many waterfalls in the Hungarian Falls Nature Area.

You have several choices of parking spots to start the trail. If you look at this map, we did park where it says, “park along the shoulder.” This is a good starting place to take a shorter version of the hike.

We took a left when we got to the loop to go to the middle falls also called, “The Bluffs.” You have to scramble down a little bit to reach these small falls, but it is worth it!

We continued down to the lower falls. We chose not to climb down to the base of these falls, so I don’t have great pics of the waterfall since we could only see them through the trees. You do have a nice view of Torch Lake from the top of the falls.

We then went back the way we came to reach the dam and the trailhead sign for the smaller loop to the upper falls.

We walked by the lake, enjoying the fall colors beginning to emerge.

We then arrived at the upper falls.

We probably only hiked a mile or so of the two mile hike, but we still were able to see all of the waterfalls. After the hike, we went to the town of Calumet for lunch and to walk around the town. If we had not planned to visit Calumet, we probably would have hiked the entire trail.

This website concentrates on where we go and what we do. If you are a Christian and are interested in travel-inspired spiritual themes, check out my Substack newsletter and The Rest Stop Podcast.
