While camping at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, we decided to spend an enjoyable day trip to visit Eagle Harbor
We started at the famous Jampot. The monks at this monastery started making jam in 1986. Since then they have branched out into baked goods as well. They are only open to the public seasonally. Also, go early. The line was already long when we showed up a few minutes before ten when they opened. We enjoyed everything we got there except the fruit cake. It says it was lightly moistened with rum. No, it was soaked in it. So if you do not like rum, I do not recommend it. However, everything else was wonderful.
Jacobs Falls
We then walked over from the Jam Pot parking lot to see Jacob Falls.
Eagle Harbor Lighthouse
Even though Eagle Harbor is before you get to Jampot, we chose to go there and backtrack to the lighthouse because we wanted to be at Jampot when it opened. The lighthouse complex has a big parking lot and several buildings to tour. The weather was cold and windy, so we didn’t spend too much time enjoying the view.
Redwyn Dunes Hike
We also took a hike in between Jampot and the Eagle Harbor lighthouse at Redwyn Dunes. This easy one-mile look hikes through the dunes, which are covered in trees and vegetation. You won’t see much sand on this hike!
take a short
We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to this section of the coast.
